Women’s Senior Series: Seniors of the Central Region

With all the NCAA coverage going on, why not take a break from being mad at the NCAA to celebrate more of our amazing women’s seniors!! Today I’m going to share with you some of the seniors of the Central Region. If you are a Central Senior, filled out my survey, and don’t see your name below, I apologize because I honestly don’t know which schools belong in which regions still. We’ve got some real ballers today, so I’ll stop my rambling and get to the good stuff.

Maggie Sweeney (Kenyon)

Senior: Maggie Sweeney

School: Kenyon

Major: Chemistry

Tennis Career: Maggie played #2 – #3 singles and #1 – #2 doubles throughout her time at Kenyon. She still has NCAA regionals coming up and has qualified with Erika Oku for the NCAA Doubles tournament.

Future Career: Physician

Immediate Post-grad Plans: Medical scribe

 

Megan Yates (Otterbein)

Senior: Megan Yates

School: Otterbein University

Major: Double majored in Allied Health, Spanish & Latin American Studies, with a minor in Psychology

Tennis Career: Predominantly #6 singles and #3 doubles for Otterbein.

Future Career: Occupational Therapist

Immediate Post-grad Plans: Doctorate of Occupational Therapy at The Ohio State University

 

Gabi Kitchell (UW-Whitewater)

Senior: Gabi Kitchell

School: University of Wisconsin – Whitewater

Major: Social Work

Tennis Career: #1 singles and #1 doubles, Doubles All-American, recently selected for the NCAA Singles tournament for the third time in her career, still has team NCAA Regionals this weekend

Future Career: Gabi plans to start her own non-profit for young teen mothers.

Immediate Post-grad Plans: Grad school and get a job in child welfare

Other Cool Plans: Gabi will be getting married in October. Congratulations!!

Annie Reiner (Kenyon)

Senior: Annie Reiner

School: Kenyon College

Major: Psychology

Tennis Career: Annie played #4-#6 singles and #3 doubles for Kenyon. She still has NCAA Regionals coming up this weekend.

Future Career: Clinical Psychologist

Immediate Post-grad Plans: Researcher for Vielight Technology

Other Cool Plans: Annie is excited to visit all of her Kenyon College womens tennis friends after she graduates 🙂

 

Julie Martin (UW-Whitewater)

Senior: Julie Martin

School: University of Wisconsin – Whitewater

Major: Public Relations

Tennis Career: #2 singles and #1 doubles for UWW. Played her first two years of college tennis at Division I Bradley University in Peoria, Ill.

Future Career: Julie plans to work in Public Relations for a company.

 

Paige Cooley (Principia)

Senior: Paige Cooley

School: Principia College

Major: Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Concentration

Tennis Career: #1 singles and #1 doubles for Principia. Paige still has NCAA Regionals with her team this weekend to close out her stellar college tennis career.

Future Career: Systems Engineer at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory

Immediate Post-grad Plans: Graduate school – Paige is earning her Masters in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Michigan

 

Caitlyn Schaffer (Augustana)

Senior: Caitlyn Schaffer

School: Augustana College

Major: Philosophy major with a minor in Ethics

Tennis Career: Schaffer is the winningest player in Augustana history with 197 total wins. She played #1 singles and #1 doubles.

Future Career: Family Lawyer

Immediate Post-grad Plans: Taking a gap year to get more experience in the legal field

Other Cool Plans: Looking into opening a business around the idea of supporting women.

 

Ashlee Polena (UW-Oshkosh)

Senior: Ashlee Polena

School: University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh

Major: Kinesiology

Tennis Career: #4 – #6 singles and #2 – #3 doubles for UW-Oshkosh

Future Career: Ashlee will be a diagnostic medical sonographer, and plans to continue her education further in the future. For those of us that don’t know what a diagnostic medical sonographer is, they’re the people with the magic hands who take your ultrasound images that are used to diagnose medical problems.

Immediate Post-grad Plans: Graduate school – trade school of sonography.

Other Cool Plans: Before starting grad school, Ashlee will be traveling.

 

Hannah Peters (UW-Oshkosh)

Senior: Hannah Peters

School: University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh

Major: Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Tennis Career: #2 – #3 singles and #1 doubles for UW-Oshkosh, she transferred to UWO from The Ohio State University her sophomore year

Future Career: Hannah plans to go back to attend graduate school for her DNP-Nurse Anesthesia

Immediate Post-grad Plans: Hannah was hired as an RN at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee in NeuroICU

Other Cool Plans: Hannah will continue playing Wisconsin USTA state league tennis and potentially coach a high school varsity girls team.

Ally Thorsen (Gustavus Adolphus)

Senior: Ally Thorsen

School: Gustavus Adolphus College

Major: Exercise Physiology with a minor in coaching

Tennis Career: #5 – #6 singles for GAC

Future Career: Ally plans a career in Health Promotion. Gurl please help me with my health all I’ve eaten today is chocolate and coffee.

I continue to be so impressed by these seniors. TBH I still don’t know what I want to do so it’s really great to see young women who have goals and are chasing their dreams.
