Dogs of D3: Round of 16!

Welcome to the first full round of the #DogsOfD3 bracket challenge! We saw an incredible tight race in the play in round with OVER 2700 VOTES, and I expect these first round matchups to be just as exciting! The voting period is open from now until 12PM EST on Thursday, so make sure to get those votes in. One a quick side note, in order to keep up our site maintenance and keep us producing men’s and women’s coverage as well as fun articles like this, we do have a donation box on the top left side of the screen, and any little bit helps! Now let the tails wag and the games begin!! As a reminder, you can vote multiple times, no limit! Get those votes out there!

#1 Maggie (UChicago) vs. Lola/Bumpa (L&C)

Two against one might not seem fair which is why team Double Trouble is taking on our toughest compawtitor, THE #1 seed in the entire tournament! Lola and Bumpa should be careful, Maggie’s ears might carry her into the next round.

#8 Rocky (Linfield) vs Moon (RPI W)

In a battle of youth vs. experience and Northwest vs. Northeast, we have a first round matchup between Rocky and Moon. Despite major differences in geography and age, both love supporting their teams, long walks in the dog park and late night belly rubs. Who will come out on top?

[Total_Soft_Poll id=”5″]

#5 River (Amherst W) vs. Stuart Litl’ (Williams W)

Mr. Steal Yo Girl River seems to be the pawpular pick, but Mr. Litl’ might have something to say about it. Both pups are representing the Northeast NESCAC purple, so I am anticipating a close one in this first round matchup!

#4 Bean (Hamilton) vs. Lily (CalTech M)

Bean and hotdogs are two of my favorite things for spring cookouts, so this might be my favorite first round matchup. Both dogs are fairly new to their respective teams and have been an integral part of establishing their own culture in the program. Both have brought success with them, but only one can advance.

BREAKING: Due to suspected unfair play, please be advised that Lily of CaltechMTEN has been disqualified from the Bracket. Bean from HamCollTennis will move onto the next round. Please don’t run scripts to vote for your dogs. It’s freaking dogs, for god’s sake. -D3AS

#3 Cleo (The Blog) vs. Tex (Oberlin)

Both Cleo and Tex have prominent modeling careers. Cleo prefers a more natural background while Tex tends to always have a nose for a dramatic effect. You can’t go wrong with whoever you choose, cause they’re both pretty pawesome models.

[Total_Soft_Poll id=”7″]

#6 Rafa (UCSC M) vs. Wicket (PP W)

I am HERE for this west coast showdown! We got a lot of backlash on the fans for Wicket not being seeded, so Rafa could be in for a tough match up in the first round. That being said, Rafa has many years of experience grinding out tough victories, so I’m expecting a very tight matchup.

#7 Tuukka (Amherst M) vs. Reggie (Kenyon M)

The Lords are looking to avenge a tough 5-4 loss to the Mammoths over Spring Break, but not in the way you would think. This first round matchup between another set of purple teams should be an absolute barn burner (see New D3Central for insurance).

#2 Gary (Stevens) vs. Captain (Dickinson)

In our final first round matchup we have Gary vs. Captain. Both are fashion icons, with Gary representing his school colors and Captain representing his favorite super hero. Both are great choices, but the runway is not meant to be shared.

As I mentioned in the intro, voting is open until noon EST on Thursday, so get those paws going and get those votes in! I’ll see you on Thursday to announce (and open voting) for the quarterfinals. Until next time, RegASouth out.

    1. D3AtlanticSouth

Talk to your hooman Lily, it’s his fault! But we still love you BARK BARK

  3. CompSci Lords

Something seems a little fishy about a school with 1,700 students having ~5000 votes for a dog on a DIII tennis blog…

14 guys on the team, 5000 votes, 24 hours, comes out to about one vote every 4 minutes for each guy on the team consistently for the last 24 hours, math checks out.

“I’m not sure what scripts are really”

    1. Rutheford B. Hayes

The Lords know how to rally the vote. They do have a former president as an alumni, after all.

    2. Reggie’s Big Popi

1st-We don’t have computer science at Kenyon.
2nd-I can’t even figure out Excel
3rd-I graduated from college before computers
4th-We are writers, actors, and economists at KC
      5th-Have you been to Gambier?
6th-Most team’s dog owners have only been collecting friends for 20-30 years.
7th-The Amish love the Lords and dogs.
8th-We are known for out working our opponents
      9th-Wade Heerboth and Josh Stiles
Bring on round 2 when we really get serious about competing

      1. I Smell Something Fishy

….Yet you managed to acquire ~3000 votes overnight?? Something is off…

        1. D3AtlanticSouth

I would like to chime in here. We have seen nothing on our end to say that Kenyon has been cheating in this challenge. I also have an issue with the math in the first post.

If you took just 5 people on the team, and they voted 10 times per minute (which I know you can do because I’ve done it). In 10 minutes, you’d have 500 votes. I know that Coach Thielke has been all about this Dogs of D3 challenge, has reached out to multiple alumni and Kenyon sports teams, and they are all voting.

The 9,000 votes overall is not ridiculous. Hamilton had 1,000 votes in two hours of opening when this poll opened, causing CalTech to cheat. The outreach is real.

    Rename Cal Tech to “Claremont-Mudd-Scripts”

  5. Reggie’s Big Popi

I’m not sure what scripts are really. Russian hacking?
I think we need a Hamilton Press Conference on this.

    BREAKING:

Due to suspected unfair play, please be advised that Lily of @CaltechMTEN has been disqualified from the #DogsOfD3 Bracket.

Bean from @HamCollTennis will move onto the next round.

Please don’t run scripts to vote for your dogs. It’s freaking dogs, for god’s sake.

Although we love Lily, we don’t love cheating. Unfortunately, apparently we have succumbed to that.
