2019 FALL “HOT” TAKES: Food inequality

Our next hot take comes from our newest writer, D3CentralWomens. Although, it’s not so much a hot take, as some sort of Title IX violation? If this is happening at your school, please reach out to any of us (I’m at D3Northeast@gmail.com or @D3Northeast) and let us know.

D3CentralWomens TAKE/DEFENSE

It’s just wrong that due to budget restrictions some of the women’ s teams can only order 6 inch subs from Subway, but all of the guys teams can get a whole foot long.  Ok, it’s one thing when us ladies drown our sorrows in a salad, but to deprive an athlete of food if they are hungry just seems wrong! Also I would swap out any girlie drink for a beer 100% of the time. A girl’s got to eat.

AVZ: If this truly is happening, this is really bad. I know there was no such policy for when I was coaching as there was always equity in every aspect of the two programs. I usually got a laugh watching a male or female player negotiate the budget menus trying to get as much food in front of them as possible, but it was always the same amount for each team. For the women who are reading this, if this is true, please report it to your senior women’s administrator and/or your athletic director.

newCentral: RT AVZ. Also good to know my Subway order has stayed the same since March 3, 2019.

ASWomens: This might be true at my alma mater after I decimated the women’s tennis budget with my eating habits for 3 years… for real though, report that sh*t.

DIIIWest: Who wants to eat subway anyway. Jersey mikes chat only and then I’ll discuss.

NE: Maybe I went to one of the good schools, or maybe this is my male privilege shining through, but I have never even heard of this. Is this actually a thing? If so, I’m appalled, and this needs to be dealt with immediately if not sooner. And lest you forget, I stan Subway

NEWomens: If this is true, I’m super sad. And if I was a woman on this team, I’d be pissed. I didn’t just slog away during a 3 hour match to only get a measly 6-inch sub post-match. There should def be equality – don’t doubt for a second that I couldn’t put down the same amount (if not more) of food as a male player. Why doesn’t Title IX cover this too?!

RegNE/C: I actually think the men are getting the bad end of this deal by having to eat more Subway. (just kidding…sort of. To be clear, this is bad if it’s actually a thing)

NewRegional: Did anyone see that subway is now selling sliders starting for $1.89 each?? I’m not really sure who the target audience is there. I’ll inhale a six inch in maybe 30 seconds, that means these sliders must go down faster than a 16-seed in the NCAA tournament (except UMBC @D3AS). Please see AVZ’s response and report this, we don’t f*ck with inequality
