2019 FALL “HOT” TAKES: Ready Player One

This is my fault. I told the bloggers that their hot takes could be “loosely connected to tennis” as they wanted. I blame myself for this and you can too. You can also check out yesterday’s tennis-related hot take by clicking here. We’ll be back tomorrow with something more substantive….

newCentral TAKE/DEFENSE: Ready Player One is an awful movie

AS: RT, I stan.

RegNE/C: Like many Blogger topics of conversation, I have no opinion here and have nothing to contribute.

ASWomens: I’ve seen this movie but I was on an airplane and honestly couldn’t hear most of the audio. What I liked about it was that it was something to watch for 2 hours. It is worth mentioning that I had gone through basically all of the other movies on the United app before settling on Ready Player One, including Teen Titans Go to the Movies and that one movie with The Rock in it where there’s a giant mutated gorilla (can’t remember the title, too lazy to look it up) [NE EDIT: it’s called Rampage and it’s amazing; newCentral EDIT: Rampage also has a Kid Cudi song that samples Bullet with Butterfly Wings and it is AMAZING] so that tells you something right there. If I was having one of those days where I watched movies on TV for 14 hours straight while napping and Ready Player One was on and the remote was far away, then maybe I’d watch it again. Otherwise I agree with newCentral.

RegAS: I have never seen it, nor do I have a desire to.

AVZ: Never seen it so I have no opinion.

CHB: I would argue that Ready Player One is an average movie (as it’s RT score of 72% would suggest). I would also argue that it’s worse to be an average movie – the type of movie you see and then completely forget about 5 minutes later – than to be a truly terrible movie… like Rampage.

NEWomens: I, too, have never seen this movie, so no opinion here, but based on what’s been said above, it seems like one I can skip.

Analyst: Meh movie.

NE: The Blog group chat rarely agrees on anything. Actually though, our offseason topics of content are 1) other sports 2) petty bickering 3) tennis, in that order. While I can’t say I’ve had the pleasure of seeing this film, if the Blog chat legitimately agrees about it, you can take it to the bank.

DIIIWest: Ready player one? Never heard of it, can I find it on putlocker?

CentralWomens: I’ve never seen it and will take your advice and probably will never see it.

NewRegional: I can’t remember the last movie I watched that wasn’t Harry Potter for the millionth time
