The Stevens #1 team shouldn’t have made it over Revzin/Solimano. Their overall schedule was clearly not as challenging, having only played two teams (Bowdoin, Tufts) from the NESCAC (toughest conference in the NE).

MIT over Stevens at #1 doubles. Big win for MIT or Stevens not that good? We all know the answer to that one.

MIT #1 doubles also beat Bowdoin #1, so take that however you’d like

Watch for Fagundes! The Brazilian star still has a lot to show!

Has there ever been a movement to increase the draw sizes for individuals? I know that no matter the number of participants, there will always be someone who is just barely below the threshold, but it sure seems that there are some super high quality players who are not being given a chance to compete this year.

I think it will always be the case, no matter the size of the draw, that a somewhat deserving team/player will be just off the cut-line. However, I can’t speak for the rest of the country, but I do think that there are multiple deserving NE guys who didn’t get in this year (Reid, Liu, Wolfe, Trinka, Cauneac, etc.)

How about Solimano and Revzin? They won the regional.

My guess is the Derbani/Campbell win over Bowdoin pushed them over Solimano/Revzin, bc that Bowdoin #1 team had just beaten Solimano/Revzin the day before. That indirect win must have been enough for the committee.

        2. Herst

Solimano/Revzin got ripped off, they should have made it over Campbell/Derbani. The Middlebury duo lost to the No. 2 teams from Wesleyan, Tufts, and Pomona earlier in the season, so it’s not like they were lights-out at the No. 2 position. I know it’s not super relevant but Solimano/Revzin crushed Farrell/Smolyar 8-2 in April at No. 1 doubles, so it’s frustrating to see another Midd team make it.

Also, I know D3Central has complained a lot about Carswell not making it over Ancona, but I actually checked their UTRs and Ancona’s rating (11.78) is slightly higher than Carswell’s (11.71). The NCAA’s decision wasn’t so bad.

To your NE point, I agree with you. Over the course of the spring Solimano/Revzin were the better team. However, knowing the emphasis that the NCAA places on late-season play, and Midd’s indirect win earned on back-to-back days at NESCACs, i can’t say it was totally shocking.

          2. LOKOLI

If you add up the 8-1 win over Skidmore #1 who by the way beat Solimano/Revzin in April, not only does Campbell/Derbani get two indirect wins over them, but the Midd duo ended the season with wins over the #1 and #2 teams in the region, having been #5 in the latest NCAA ranking. Tough to rule against that.
I would agree with the DIIIFan post above and have Amherst over Stevens because of their weak schedule.

      2. BIGFAN

Exactly. Going from 32 to 64 would solve that problem, all of the guys in your list would be given a chance. All of them are capable of beating the guys who made the cut.

        1. D3TennisEnt

But then we would see an extension of this current debate played out with the players who are borderline at 64 instead of 32.
