Happy #IndoorsWeek, boys and girls. We have been working on a not so secret surprise for all you fantasy sports people/degenerates out there, a DIII Tennis version of Daily Fantasy. A bunch of the writers, most of all your Headmaster, have put in a lot of time/thought into this project, and today we are proud to present a DIII Tennis Daily Fantasy Game for Indoors! This is an introduction and rules section of the game, but we will have more later in the week/into the weekend. First things first, a somewhat important disclaimer: we at The Blog do not condone gambling. This is merely a fun, skill-based exercise with no actual money involved. Click here to read more about the NCAA’s position on gambling with regards to DIII. This is supposed to be fun, so whether you have never played fantasy sports, or you lose almost every Sunday while splitting your lineup with a friend, give it a try! There is no money involved. Now, let’s get to the rules so you all can have all the time you want to make some trial lineups.
RULES/IMPORTANT STUFF
- A lineup must consist of 6 different players from the list below
- A lineup must not exceed a total cost of $35,000
- You must take players from at least two different teams
- A player earns 3 points for each singles win at any position in the starting lineup (#1-6 singles)
- A player earns 2 points for each doubles win at any position in the starting lineup (#1-3 doubles)
- Lineups DO NOT have to consist of a player from each position. You may take 6 #1’s if the prices allow it (they don’t)
- Lineups lock an hour before the beginning of the tournament (8 a.m. on Friday, 2/19)
- Total high score at the end of the weekend wins a prize and an interview with me (D3NE)
- The tournament draw can be found here
- The tournament home page can be found here
- This is our first shot at DIII Tennis Daily Fantasy, so please let us know what you like or what could be improved. If people like this, we will hopefully try again for the Stag-Hen, conference championships, and NCAAs. Feel free to reach out in the comments section, through email (D3Northeast@gmail.com) or via Twitter. Help us make the game better!
WHAT THE RULES MEAN
They should be pretty self explanatory, but basically you choose six players from the list below and the sum of their prices cannot be greater than $35,000. You cannot be a total homer and take 6 guys from your favorite team. A singles win is worth three points no matter what spot in the lineup or the strength of opponent. For example, a Rafe Mosetick win at #1 singles for Emory is worth the exact same amount of points as a Josh Dughi win at #6 for Case Western. Doubles wins are worth two points, but the same theory applies. Tyer and Krull would each earn 2 individual points for a win at #1 doubles for Trinity Texas. If you have both guys in your lineup, that would be worth a total of 4 points. Once the tournament starts (Friday at 9 a.m.), no further lineup selections will be accepted. Total high score through the weekend wins an interview with me and hopefully some prize of sorts.
PLAYER LIST/PRICES and HOW TO JOIN
We have listed the prices below, as well as in the following link. You can also access the link at the top left of the homepage under “DRAFTKINGS PRICES”. Self explanatory, right? Please note that you do NOT need to pick players from each singles or doubles position. To enter your team, please email your team to any of the following email addresses. You can also tweet your lineup to any one of us.
d3atlanticsouth@gmail.com, d3northeast@gmail.com, d3centraltennis@gmail.com, d3regional@gmail.com, d3tennisgreek@gmail.com
Please note you can only have ONE SUBMISSION per person. For those of you that would like to stay anonymous, please include that in your email with your team name. We will not post your identity and only include your team name on the site. We will be checking your team if it is over budget. If it is, you have to change it or you will be disqualified from the event.
Please submit your team in the following format:
Your Team Name
Player #1
Player #2, etc
Got it? Yay. If you look below you’ll see that Rafe Mosetick is the highest ranked player. Good luck to all who choose him, I can’t wait to see your team of doubles specialists go to the title. If you have questions, please feel free to ask. I’m looking forward to all your submissions. When Daily Fantasy – Indoors (AKA DRAFTKINGS) officially locks at 8AM on Friday, we will be releasing the teams and also providing you all with a hopefully live scoring tracker so you can all see who is winning at the time. This is our best idea yet. I can’t wait to see all the different types of teams and strategies that you guys come up with. Will you go with the classic “Studs and Scrubs” type team that people go with, where you pick two or three workhorses and fill out your team on the cheap? Or will you go with a more balanced team, hoping to put together a ton of wins from many different players? Maybe you have a dark horse up your sleeve or insider information on a lineup! We are very interested. And of course, we are excited to use our expertise to beat you guys at what we do best – DIII tennis. Who’s gonna challenge us? BRING. IT. ON.
ASouth, OUT.
