4/15 Division III Power Rankings

All hail, another edition of the DIII Power Rankings!  Unfortunately, this edition was just as confusing as the last one in regards to the black hole.  If only teams could just do what they’re supposed to do.  After what was a quiet week everywhere except the Northeast, there were not too many large changes to the Power Rankings.  However, we always get this out on Tuesday and we don’t take month long breaks.  Power Rankings, below.

Notable Moves:

Kenyon, Down 2 Spots – With the loss of Razumovsky for the Lords, this season is starting to take its toll for the lords.  Despite being on the prowl, the Lords have no quality wins in the top 15 this year especially now that Redlands lost easily to CLU.  Kenyon has a big match this weekend against Carnegie Mellon but will be heavy underdogs in a match where two teams are going opposite directions.

California Lutheran, Up 3 Spots – CLU benefits from their domination of Redlands as they continue to move up the rankings.  CLU, despite having many losses this year, still has a few wins that they can point to and are rewarded for having those.  CLU really marks the point where the dreaded “Black Hole” really begins, and they have the honor of being at the top of that area.

Brandeis, Up 5 Spots – Brandeis #DroppedDemGavels this past weekend after beating a worthy NESCAC foe Trinity CT.  This marked Brandeis’s first win over a ranked team in a long time and they have been added to the Power Ranking discussion.  Congratulations to ‘Deis for reaching the top 30 at #27.  Way to represent the UAA as well.

That’s really all the notable moves from a week ago! Again, not a very exciting week as we gear up for the conference tournaments and the eventual NCAA selections.  Keep checking back for more articles and fun facts as we try and get some more activity from y’all.

Oh, and side note – the readers need to watch these videos from Cruz and Tufts.  Let’s get some more team videos, why don’t we?

I don’t see how Chicago is so high. They definitely couldn’t beat Redlands and only beat Denison 5-4. If brandeis beats tufts on Friday I would think brandeis would be higher ranked than them in national rankings and for the uaa tournament.

Because everyone past #17 has one big loss, and Chicago has beaten CLU. It’s tough when everyone is beating everyone and the CLU win is one of the more impressive ones on the year. That’s whats holding them up. Brandeis has only beaten Colby and Trinity CT. Neither of those wins are close to the CLU win.

Just curious how Pacific makes it onto the list? Looked over their schedule and despite winning indiv matches against Whitman, none of their wins are over ranked teams. Maybe I just don’t know about teams in the west that aren’t ranked in the top 30 to begin with. Just seems like teams below them have better wins.

I basically put them on the list because they got an indirect win over Rochester via Chapman, so I finally had a reason to put another West region team on the list, and then I whined until the other guys drank the Kool Aid.

Unfortunately, the Boxers won’t play any of those teams, but I think they could legitimately beat Colby, RPI, Swarthmore, Sewanee
