3/10 Division III Power Rankings

Before any matches get out today, we wanted to provide you with your weekly power rankings.  Due to the lack of matches last week, there hasn’t been too much that has changed.  However, there are some slight moves that are definitely noteworthy as we continue to get into the heart of our season.  Feel free to comment regarding the rankings and notable moves as you go through, and let us know your thoughts!  Please note this is not what we think the ITA rankings should look like, but how we feel about each team this season based off of talent, results, projections, and other factors.

Notables:

#10 Carnegie Mellon, Up 2 Spots – In the ITA rankings, CMU will be moving up 8-9 spots based off of their win against previously ranked #10 Bowdoin.  In our power rankings, CMU will move up two spots but get that coveted top 10 rank.  The Tartans put together a comprehensive performance yesterday and are looking for some more signature wins out West.  They still have matches against the #3, #4, and #8 teams in the power rankings so there is definitely room to move up.  There’s also a lot of room to move down as well.

#11 Whitman, Up 5 Spots – How does a team win only one match out of 3 and move up five spots in the next week’s rankings?  By taking what we didn’t for sure know about the team and making it clear evidence.  Whitman played the #7 Trinity TX very close to the beat of a 5-4 loss, showed heart against #1 CMS, and took out a decent Cruz team easily.  This team works their ass off and they will be a factor down the stretch for sure.

#1 CMS, No move – Nothing too much to see here for CMS, but they are now the unanimous #1 team in the writer’s poll.  With high expectations, CMS seems to be going through their regular cadence of dominating the regular season.  Let’s hope to see the same in the postseason in which is already shaping up to be a great field.

Shuffle at the Bottom – There was a little bit of shuffling of the bottom 4 teams after a few comments last week in the Power Rankings.  All of these teams have a lot to prove and unfortunately, we had to leave our Swarthmore this week.  They just missed the cut but they are definitely at that #30 spot or at least tied for it.  It’s way too tough to pick between these teams right now.
