DIII Mascot Challenge Champions: Wisconsin-Whitewater

After weeks of marketing and jockeying and voting on friends’ computers and badgering anyone with an iPhone or Droid, the DIII Mascot Challenge has finally reached its end. With a stunning first round victory over Williams, it was immediately obvious that Wisconsin-Whitewater was going to be tough to beat, but I never would have expected any team to be able to generate 5,000 votes, truly impressive. Congratulations to them and their fans! As far as the prize goes, I have a pretty faint idea of what it’s going to be, but I’m sure it won’t live up to your expectations. Sorry. With the amount of time and effort you people put into it, you probably could have purchased something better, but I hope the prize will be a keepsake that you look upon fondly. (Coach Barnes, keep your eye on your mailbox in a couple weeks)

The Tufts Jumbos offered some incredibly stiff resistance this past week. Their vote total was arguably more impressive, since they managed to generate almost as many votes as they have undergraduate students. For those of you complaining that W-W was too big to compete against, look to Hopkins, Emory, and Wash U to see what happens when a big school as an apathetic fan base. I’m not even saying that their fan base should care about a mascot competition administered by a blogger who is clearly unprofessional. I’m saying that the Warhawks clearly cared more than anyone. For that, they deserve the title! And since any post written by me wouldn’t be complete without at least one pot shot, their mascot is still very mediocre.

Here is the final bracket for you sentimental types

Great wrap up. Hilarious and right on the money. Prize?? No worries, we were doing it simply for pride. It was great team bonding and a lot of fun, but please don’t do it again. I got nothing else done last week!

Does this mean that Denison has the worst mascot of the field?

Of course not. I actually like their mascot. It just means the seeding was done based on national ranking, and they came up against the Stags in the first round and lost

For those of you looking for actual tennis-related stuff, I should start pumping out season previews in these next couple weeks. I’m not really sure what the regional writers have been doing.
