Provide the Blog Feedback!

Well everyone, as we wind down another great year of DIII Tennis, I wanted to reach out to all of you regarding the future of the blog.  I think this year was again our best year yet, and I am really not exaggerating.  The site stats tell us so! We are coming up on 2 MILLION Views on this domain, not counting the views from the old blog.  What a milestone year for us!  We’ve also gotten our first Blogger Reveal, added a great writer in D3TennisGreek, and tried to up the Men’s coverage for you this year.  As always, we think there is room to improve for next year.  Yes, we will be back.  If you all could provide some feedback for us in any of the bulletpoints below, that would be great and potentially something we look into next year! We will take all feedback, we’re not afraid to stick our necks out!  Don’t be afraid to write a comment, good or bad.  It’s great to hear you all.
One thing I would like to point out – I am aware that our Women’s coverage was lackluster this year.  That is on me. For next year, I will be coming up with a more refined schedule on how to layout our Women’s coverage so you can all get the articles you need.  It is definitely on my radar!

Feel free to also email me at d3atlanticsouth@gmail.com if you have suggestions you’d like to keep private.  Thanks to all of you for a great year, and we still have 4 great days to go! (including individuals!)

1) Constructive Feedback for the blog – anything from writing styles, types of articles, etc

2) Suggestion Articles – anything that you would have loved to see that we can explore for next year?

3) Praise! – What did we do well this year?

4) Twitter Presence – any feedback regarding our twitters.  Too many tweets, too much commentary, etc, etc?  Anything else you’d like to see?

5) The Site – we’re not site masters, so let us know if you think you can improve the site!

6) Misc. – Anything that came to you during the year and you wanted to let us know but were scared to.

7) General Ideas/Thoughts – with a face to one of our names, what are some cool things you think we can do for next year? Anything to get you all more interacted with the blog?

Additionally, I would like to update you guys that we are working through details but almost ALL of our writers be back next year for another round of great DIII Tennis blogging. If you know someone that would love to contribute to the blog, please tell them to reach out to me as well.  We are potentially looking for another Regional writer and we are always open to more input with fresh blood.  Thank you to all who have made this year special.  And of course, ASouth, OUT.

You do a great job covering men’s tennis, but what about the women? More coverage would be so great. Are you interested in adding a blogger?

    1. D3AtlanticSouth

Yes we are! Please email me at d3atlanticsouth@gmail.com !!!

  2. Tennis Mom

Are you still interesting in adding a blogger?

  3. Shaw Speer

Would you be able to provide more updates and coverage of the Fantasy teams? I feel like the potential is there for season-long coverage, and possibly a season-long competition. Thanks for all the coverage and articles, big fan!

I’ve been following the blog since its inception (Fall 2007) and each year is better than the last. Each of you writes very well, and D3TennisGreek has been a fantastic addition. I’m not sure if this was a conscious initiative, but you seemed to do more roundtable-style articles this year (perhaps as a consequence of the growing number of you on the blog team), which I especially enjoyed.

    Thanks for another great season.

I echo many of the sentiments already posted: the Blog is informative, interactive and certainly entertaining at times. I agree with “Graduating Senior’s Parent” that a section on colleges as they relate to DIII Tennis would have been extremely helpful during the college application/selection process.

For the past two seasons, I have relied on the Blog, not only to gain a tremendous amount of knowledge about collegiate tennis, but as a way to stay connected. Unlike USTA Juniors, where I was able to watch most of my son’s matches and knew many of the other regional players, I was able to see only a few of his college matches and knew very little about the other teams and players. Your previews, recaps and wide array of articles allowed for involvement that otherwise would not have been possible.

Thank you for all your efforts

Awesome year for the blog. Great coverage and it gets better every year. First year not playing in a while but the blog is still very fun to read. One thing I would like to see added is player interviews. Might be tough if players don’t get permission from coaches to do them but worth a try.

Thank you on behalf of the tennis parents.Just got back from Kzoo and certain predictions were eerily accurate.

Our pleasure! Thanks for reading and supporting us all year!

Your hard work is much appreciated. Division III parents and players really appreciate all you are doing. The one feedback I would give is that you all have limited understanding of college tennis. I am sure as you study the game, parent players, coach the game and gain a greater understanding of what this game requires you all will have better posts.

    1. D3AtlanticSouth

This is hilarious considering I’m pretty positive you have fathered no tennis children and played/currently coach the same level of tennis as we all did. But, you do you, brother 🙂

    Great Blog.

My comments relate to the Texas teams. UT Tyler and Trinity play some DI, DII, and Jr. College teams. Please study up on some of these opponents rather than comment that you don’t know anything about them because they are not D3 teams. Some of these teams are at or near the top of their Division and the Texas teams should garner credit in your power rankings for these opponents.

I have loved hearing about colleges that I did not know even existed. How about a list of D3 universities that have tennis programs? Also a early season breakdown of each conference and who to watch for in that conference. Not just the power teams.

Y’all have done a good job of listing where we can watch matches online or a live score update. Maybe rather than in the tweets this could be listed to the left for matches or even have a score board of recently played matches.

    Keep up the good work.

    1. D3West

Thanks for the feedback. As the West region writer, I will say that even though I am aware of how strong schools like Tyler JC and Incarnate Word are, matches against these teams should not be used in DIII power rankings because coaches treat out-of-division matches the same. They are great matches (and often the most cherished victories for DIII teams with a chip on their shoulder), but they just can’t apply to rankings. I’ll read up more on those teams, regardless.

The conference breakdown is definitely something we should incorporate, and we’ll probably need some guest writers to do so.

The scoreboard is something readers often ask for. In the past, we have tried making one, but it is difficult to maintain, and d3sports already has a very comprehensive one on their site, so we point you in their direction to avoid duplicating work. We’ll make sure the scoreboard link is better-labeled.

I concur with the spirit of all of the previous comments…job very well done. Frankly D 3 tennis is white hot right now and you are one of the reasons. I would also agree with some of the suggestions: become an actual lobby for change ( number of pool C spots ) as well as comment on which programs might be a good fit depending on quality of play, coaching, academics. I also believe we should continue the conversation about where the fine line is between spirited cheering and obnoxious behavior…..keep up the GREAT work!

    1. D3AtlanticSouth

GWP! Glad to see you’re still reading the blog. Thank you for your suggestions!

Re: Change – we are doing our best, I think as we continue to gain traction as a legit source of information we will continue to increase our impact on the NCAA and DIII Tennis as a whole.
Re: Rankings – we will look into doing something like this, it’s a great idea!

      Thanks again!

  11. D3Fan

You guys/gals do a phenomenal job. The quality of the writing is great – informative, upbeat, funny, content-filled and (mostly) grammatical. You produce your articles on a very timely basis – sometimes under tight deadlines. If you changed nothing next year, I would give you a grade of A. My main reaction is that we all owe you a big debt of gratitude for your commitment to the blog and the effort you pour into it.

A couple of very minor suggestions: there are some topics that would be helpful to have posted in some sort of “sticky” or wiki, that would always be accessible as a reference. Some examples would include: the rules for who gets admitted to the tournament and how, the special NESCAC conference rules that restrict those teams, etc. etc.

I encourage you to maintain a good, clean database of members, which you might already do. I can imagine that the D3 community might want to lobby the NCAA or the ITA on certain topics, (number of pool C spots, for example) and you could act as a unique convenor or organizer to help with such an effort. You might not want to do that, which would be fine, but just in case you do, you should have all the necessary tools at your disposal.

    THANK YOU!

    1. D3AtlanticSouth

My nemesis D3Fan! Thank you for the compliments. I for one had a great time debating with you all year, (go NESCAC?). Thank you for following us all year as well, we appreciate it!

Agreed on the “sticky” rules, important info. I’ll look to make a category so it appears on the site Menu where everyone can reference it.

Regarding the members, we are always trying to not only increase our connection with the DIII tennis world but also expand it. We are hoping with our blogger reveal that we can take a step towards doing that.

  12. jane maassen

We really appreciate your blog and all the tweets from each of the contributing writers. The articles are all interesting, current, and entertaining. Thank you all for taking the time and having the passion for making this such a great blog…!

    1. D3AtlanticSouth

Thank you for the kind words Mrs. Maassen! Best of luck to you and your son in the next adventure, and please keep checking back for your DIII tennis information!

  13. Anon

Without your website, D3 men’s tennis will be where D2 tennis is. Nowhere. Frankly, in my opinion, you have made D3 tennis more exciting and relevant than D1 tennis for the players, parents, alumni, and fans. Thank you so much for the experiences.

    1. A Graduating Senior's Parent Final Thoughts

I absolutely agree that your blog INCREDIBLY elevates D3 tennis. The analysis of the bloggers throughout the season was not only well-informed but so entertaining. Fantastic job! As the parent of a graduating SCIAC senior, I would have loved to have been aware of this site earlier during my son’s high school years as we searched for college programs. With that in mind, I think it would be helpful if the bloggers could put out an annual D3 “College Program Ranking” somewhat similar to the Power Ranking and post it on http://www.tennisrecruiting.net based on relevant factors that the bloggers consider important (i.e., quality of coaching staff, facilities, opportunity to play, academic reputation, etc). Other publications issue “Top 100 best liberal arts colleges…..” based purely on academic factors. What schools do the bloggers consider as the best D3 program IF YOU HAD TO DECIDE TODAY where you’d want to go? For example, CMS is fantastic but what are your chances of playing in the lineup as compared to Colorado College? Which school has the best coaching staff who can develop players’ talent? This Top 30 (or so) list published on http://www.tennisrecruiting.net would not only be very informative but provide a great way for high school prospects and their parents to get introduced to this fantastic, knowledgeable site. Thanks for 4 great years! One last point on “aggressive” programs that the bloggers have noted in postings – as one of many parent/spectators watching these awesome D3 matches, coaches and players should note that the people who may be in positions to hire or connect players to great jobs post-college may very well be in the stands watching. Play hard but play exhibiting great character because it’s what elevates you, your team, your school and your family. And, based on how you carry yourself on the court, you may either score a great contact for job prospects post-college or pretty much hose yourself from ever getting an interview. Just a thought.

    2. collegetennisrules

Hi Anon. Division I tennis is way more relevant than Div 3 on a national level. Not sure what tennis you have followed all year. But glad to see these guys working at it.
