Wrap-Up: The Blog’s Future, Expected Dates

It’s been a couple of days (maybe weeks) and I know that a lot of you probably won’t get to read this post until next season.  I wanted to wrap up this year with a quick recap of the blog (nothing analytical) and give you a good idea for what to expect next season.  It’s been a great year so far and that’s really because of the efforts of not only the bloggers, but the fans as well.

Recap:

This won’t be very long, but I think this was the best year overall for the blog.  With two new dedicated writers, D3NE and D3Central, we were able to cover everything across the country.  Really awesome year and I think the participation was at an all-time high, especially on twitter.  If you haven’t gotten twitter yet, it’s great for all of you to follow us – we provide live updates for most of the matches.  Either way, keep up the banter! We love interacting with you guys and it gives us some laughs for sure.  Anyways, that’s enough on this year for the blog. Moving on to our future plans…

Future Plans:

I have a lot in store for the blog next year, because if you aren’t setting your goals high, then you’re just copping out.  Both D3Central and D3Northeast will be returning for the full year next year.  You will notice that I have left out D3West, who will be joining us for the fall.  However, his plans are unknown after that point, and we will most likely need a new D3West writer.  If you have interest, please email me at d3atlanticsouth@gmail.com

In terms of content, this year was great but next year can be better.  We plan on increasing our output to a few more articles about the smaller school teams, and I think we will have some increased bandwidth next year given some interest in writing.  I can’t guarantee it, but I deem it highly likely that all of you that tell us to cover your teams will be able to get more than you got this year.  That’s exciting.

Women’s Tennis? – Another great idea that has come out has been the idea of covering DIII Women’s Tennis.  Now, this won’t get the coverage of Men’s Tennis, as that is our expertise, but we have gotten some interest in periodic articles for our female counterparts.  We have a couple people that have potential interest in writing for Women’s, but if you have interest and haven’t emailed me, you should.  You will not be expected to output as much as we do now.  It will be expected as maybe 1 article per month to take a step into the unknown.  Again, email me if you have interest!

Video/Audio Podcasts – A great idea that has popped up has been the idea of video/audio broadcasting for the blog, so we don’t have to spend our time writing away and can instead give you our live thoughts on things.  I am working on how to keep our identities fairly secret during this time, but this is something I will be l looking at this summer to hopefully have for you guys next year.  This is an idea I’m very excited about!

The Site – In a couple of weeks, I will be trying to revamp the site a little bit – but we’ll see where that goes.  This is more for the bloggers as to what goes on behind the scenes, but just in case you try and visit the site and it’s down, that’s probably what’s happening.  So don’t panic!

When should you check back?! – A great question for all. If you don’t plan on checking back into the site until we start up again (good plan, imo) we will be ramping up our activities for the Fall season sometime during the week after Labor Day.  For all of you that are holiday stupid, that mean’s the week of August 31st – September 6th.  We will kick off the season there.  Mark your calendars!

Well, that’s all I got. Hope everyone has an awesome, awesome summer and comes back next year ready to go.  You’ll be hearing from me on twitter periodically (probably not tennis related) and feel free to ask me questions on there or via email if you have any.  I will be checking those two things.  So, I guess this means for the last time this year… ASouth OUT.

Why are you so intent on keeping your identity a secret? Don’t want to be as critical of the guys once they’ll actually know who you are?

I shouldn’t need to answer this, but I unfortunately will indulge you. The reason why we are intent on keeping it a secret is for a few reasons. First off is something that Nick Ballou mentioned when he was a guest writer for us – it’s hard to be objective when people know who you are. Objectivity is what this blog is all about, otherwise you wouldn’t be getting our best predictions. Secondly, it absolutely is hard to be critical of guys when they know who you are. That being said, it’s not like we are being critical just because we don’t like a kid. Everything is based off of results and performance. Tie those two things together and you get really the main reasoning. We put a lot of work into the blog and go to matches to get background on all of the players. It’s nice to go to some of these matches and not need to be bothered by people coming up asking me blog questions.

Nice irony on the Tony Stark name though, kudos to you. If I had the brains if Tony Stark I wouldn’t be anonymous either.
