Women’s Player of the Week! – March 16th – 23rd

NCAA WOMEN’S REGIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK: MARCH 16th-23rd

Each writer brings you their respective Player of the Week! I gotta say that this group is great because it highlights players from all across the respective lineups! Congrats ladies!

A-SOUTH

BG

Player: Bronte Goodhue

Team: University of the South (Sewanee)

Results: 4-0 in Singles, 4-0 in Doubles

Recap: When’s the last time Bronte Goodhue lost?  Great trivia question, because I sure know it wasn’t last week.  Goodhue went undefeated against Biola, Salisbury, Case Western, and Mary Washington this past week.  Not impressed?  Well, she did it all at #1 doubles and #1 and #2 singles.  Still not impressed? Keep trying to find the perfect match, I’m sure it’s working well for you.  Goodhue was a baller this past week, helping Sewanee beat two top 20 teams in Case Western and Mary Washington.  Not a bad week.  Oh and by the way, that win over Mary Washington was Coach Shackleford’s 500th win! Congrats, Coach!

What’s next: A big matchup against Emory next Thursday!

Honorary Mention: Lindsey Liles, Sewanee – also went undefeated! Sewanee top of the lineup is boss!

CENTRAL

NB

Player: Nancy Benda

Team: Hope

Results: 4-0 Singles, 6-0 Doubles

Recap: In a light of a rough central region performance, Hope College was able to put together six straight wins highlighted by an 8-1 drubbing of #37 St. Lawrence. Nancy Benda won six straight doubles matches with multiple partners, and gutted out some tough singles wins at the top spot.

What’s next: Huge Clash vs Denison on Friday at 4:30PM

Honorary Mention: Claire Cooper (Hope)

NE

VT

Player: Victoria Tam

Team: MIT

Results: Singles win over UChicago; doubles wins over Chicago and RPI.

Recap: Victoria Tam helped secure MIT a ginormous 7-2 team win over #13 UChicago, which will have huge Pool C implications for the NCAA tournament. She and partner Elysa Kohrs had a tight 8-6 win at 1st doubles and in singles she was able to secure a 6-3, 6-0 win at #3 singles.

What’s next: #8 Pomona on 3/26.

Honorary Mention:  Samantha Schapiro, Vassar; Brianna Greene, Skidmore

WEST

LV

Player: Lauren Villaneuva

Team: Redlands

Results: Singles wins over Sewanee, WashU, Whitman, Hardin-Simmons, Pomona and Wesleyan. Doubles wins over Tufts, Whitman, Sewanee, Hardin-Simmons and Pomona

Recap: Villaneuva had some solid wins this week at #2 Doubles (with Julia Pollak) and at #3-5 Singles. She has been really playing well this year and from what I saw, has some great potential. Now that she has moved up the Bulldog lineup, she has lost her only two contests of the season, but to solid Nationally ranked teams. She could be a really stud player for that middle portion of the lineup and a key Bulldogs point at both disciplines.

What’s next: two SCIAC contests @ Oxy & Chapman

Honorary Mention: Laina Matsuda – La Verne
