Women’s Northwest Regional Review

WHAT A WEEKEND!!

Alright y’all, after one heavy dosage of D3 tennis last weekend. I am finally over the lull that is the days after an ITA Regional tournament. This past weekend featured the jam-packed West Region as well as the ever-intriguing Pacific Northwest. Heading into the tournaments, I really had no idea exactly what was going to happen and neither event failed to disappoint.

Here is the low-down: I am going to do grades this time around as we are amidst the Fall semester. This article will be split into two parts so: 1) It can be easier on the eyes and 2) I don’t want to write an entire book on here (at least, not right now)

Let’s start with the Pacific Northwest!!

ITA Pacific Northwest Regional

Location: To the Window to the WALLA WALLA, Washington

Teams Competing: Whitman (the hosts), Linfield, Lewis & Clark, Whit Worthy-Worth, Pacific, Williamette, Pacific Lutheran and George Fox

Let’s start with the Hosts:

Whitman Missionaries: Alright, if we are going to take about domination….the ladies of Whitman are the definition. They swept every bracket of the draw. Courtney Lawless defended her title for the wait for it……THIRD TIME…Danggg girl that’s crazy!! This time around, she dropped 11 games on the way to the title including a 0 and 1 take down of rookie Jenny Adams in the final. In the Doubles final we saw double-trouble with Courtney and her twin Morgan winning the title. But the Missionaries didn’t stop there!!! The ladies also took the “B” and “C” Singles brackets.

Fun Facts: Courtney Lawless has won SEVEN..wait, let me say that again…SEVEN Regional titles. Her only loss in the ITA Regional was in her first year. Bow down to the Champ as she heads to the ITA National Small College Championships.

Besides the Lawless sisters and the “B” and “C” flight champions (Lindsey Brodeck and Alex Sigouin., Whitman did not have much to say in this event. Simply because I question their depth:

GRADE: A

Lewis & Clark Pioneers: Well tennis fans, it appears that the Pioneers came to play this weekend. I hate to be patting myself on the back here but…*pat pat* because I kind of called a potential good-run for the Lady Pioneers during my Season Preview but DAMNNNNNNN I never expected this:

  • 1 Singles Semifinalist (Aurora “Beam” Garrison) with another Quarterfinalist
  • Doubles Finalists (Aurora Beam and Wiktoria Plawska)

To go along with the strong performance, L&C brought some great tweeting this past weekend that of which I am very pleased with.

GRADE: B+

Whit worthy-worth Pirates: I think I have made a good friend in the person who is responsible for the Whitworth Twitter. I assume it is Coach Wagstaff but whomever it is, they are always great with the responses and we have good Twitter chemistry…. 🙂

Ok, onto the tennis.. please allow me to introduce: Jenny Adams!

Honestly, I don’t even remember seeing her name on my Recruiting Sheet from the beginning of the semester and now she is a Regional Finalist! One can only wonder what will come of her next year as Courtney Lawless is due to graduate this Spring.

As for the rest of the squad, Taylor Peña reached the Quarterfinals in the “A” Bracket in her Junior season.

GRADE: B

Pacific University Boxers: A solid showing for Pacific at the ITA Tournament with a Singles Semifinalist in Kaitlyn Lomartire and a Quarterfinalist in Jelena Vidovic (the two also paired up to make the Doubles Semifinals). Great Tweeting by Pacific all weekend as well. I am not sure if I mentioned them on Twitter and I am wayyyy too lazy to go back and check if I did but well done nonetheless.

GRADE: B-

Linfield College Wildcats: Not too much to write home about for Linfield this weekend, one Singles Quarterfinalist in Ella Riddle and a Doubles Semifinalist in Riddle and Mackenzie Fraser

GRADE: C

SO tennis fans, what is ahead of the Pacific Northwest Region? Yeah not too much until February but I am VERY interested to see Whitman face off against Lewis & Clark. Why??? Because I think that L&C has some good depth coming up and we could see a battle on our hands come Spring time.

GOOD LUCK to the Lawless twins at Small College Nationals!

Keep an eye out for my West Regional Review coming soon!!

DWW OUT!!
