Blogger Perspective: Trinity University is an extremely highly-regarded school within the state of Texas, and has one of the best overall tennis programs in D3. Most of their players are from Texas and stay in Texas post-graduation, as is represented by the alumni profiles above. The history and tradition of the Tigers are as good any program in D3, consistently finishing within the top 10. With a tennis history rooted in Division I, the program still resembles a DI program in many aspects. As mentioned above, the athletic facilities are top notch. Players have access to the same training staff as the San Antonio Spurs, and players can expect to spend a lot of time on the court. (A couple fun facts: John McEnroe’s lone college loss came at the hands of a Trinity Tiger, and one Tiger, Chuck McKinley won Wimbledon while playing in 1963). One thing the Tigers have done very well over the past few years is attract strong transfers. These are primarily students who are coming from D1 and found far more success once moving to D3. The core of the Trinity program is alumnus and Coach Russell McMindes. The team mirrors his high energy personality, and they are known as one of the more boisterous teams in D3. Despite their boisterousness, many opponents enjoy their classic Southern hospitality.

Apart from the tennis program, Trinity offers a strong liberal arts education on an urban campus within San Antonio. Located five minutes from the historic River Walk, students will have access to a variety of cultural events, including their beloved Spurs and the 2018 Final Four. The Trinity faculty are consistently highly ranked nationally, and a superb alumni base helps Trinity alums have job placement that is second to none. This is an ideal program for a recruit looking for a strong liberal arts education who wants to improve their tennis game substantially.
