Week #6, 2012 Mya Smith-Dennis

Mya Smith-Dennis (Gustavus Adolphus)

There were several worthy performances in the Central region from the past couple weeks, but Gustavus Adolphus has played so many quality matches that I must give the nod to their best performer. While on the West coast, Smith Dennis and partner Amrik Donkena (the 7th-ranked doubles team in the country) beat the #1 doubles teams from #6 CMS, #11 Pomona-Pitzer, and #25 Whittier 9-7, 8-5, and 8-6 respectively. Against Whittier, Smith-Dennis followed up his doubles victory with a 6-1. 6-4 singles victory to lead Gustavus to an important 5-4 victory. This last week, the Smith-Dennis/Donkena doubles tandem finally dropped a match against Wisconsin-Whitewater, but Smith-Dennis returned to his winning ways in singles, winning 7-6, 6-3 over Whitewater’s Andrew Bayliss in a 5-4 loss to the Warhawks. Smith-Dennis topped off his impressive two weeks by winning both his singles and doubles matches in a 8-1 victory over Kalamazoo.

Honorable Mention: Tom Cawood (Denison), Sean Carr (Case Western), Adam Putterman (Wash U)
