Week #6, 2012 Tyler Carey

Atlantic South

Tyler Carey (Mary Washington)

Carey was the only Eagle to go 4-0 in in Mary Washington’s ship-righting victories over Christopher Newport and Swarthmore. Against the Captains, Carey teamed with Alex Blakhin for an 8-4 victory at #2 doubles before dominating his #3 singles match 6-1, 6-1, to lead his team to victory. Against Swarthmore, Carey and Blakhin helped the Eagles avoid a doubles sweep by winning 8-4 at #2 doubles. He then sparked the comeback in singles by winning 6-4, 6-3, at #4 singles over Swat’s Max Kaye. The Swarthmore win was Mary Washington’s first victory over a ranked team since stunning Cal Lutheran on March 5th. They dropped seven straight matches against now-ranked opponents between wins.

Honorable Mention: Will Duncan (Carnegie Mellon), Hopkins’ whole team
