And Now a Word from the Booth: My Final Blog Post

Hi all, D3TennisGreek/D3Midwest10s here (same person). After two fun years blogging, I’ve decided to step down. Currently, I’m at a critical juncture in my professional life, so I want to fully focus on my career.

The past two years, I’ve also had the privilege of calling the team and individual finals for ncaa.com. And despite pulling several all-nighters during what was supposed to be my “vacation” time, broadcasting was one of the greatest experiences of my life. Clearly, I’m no Mike Cation or Chris Fowler out there, but hopefully, I didn’t embarrass myself/the sport too much. Thanks to all who were able to tune in.

However, despite how much fun I had calling matches and cheering on players at NCAAs, I’m going to cherish my interactions with parents the most. It’s amazing how many parents end up speaking with me at nats every year, and I find myself rooting for players from rival schools because of their parents.

Couple of quick shout outs before I say goodbye for good:

-Bloggers: It would take way too long to give each blogger his due respect, but I appreciate you guys taking a chance on some random dude who never played college tennis. These guys work their butts off, and their loyalty to D3 tennis is remarkable.

-Coaches: There’ve been several coaches who’ve been extremely helpful, kind, and supportive over the past couple years. Coach Fried (thanks for the t-shirt by the way; wore it on Sunday!), Coach Settles, and Coach Valentini have been extremely nice to me in person. Coach Barnes always provided me with inside knowledge about UW-Whitewater, which I deeply appreciated.

-Tim Farrell: I would be remiss if I did not give a shout out to Tim, the one known on twitter as @uaatennis. The guy cares as much about D3 tennis as anyone in the country. The dude is a saint, voice of reason and has always been my favorite guy to chat with about the sport. He’s also known about my d3midwest10s identity for so long yet hasn’t spilled the beans.

Feel free to connect with me on Facebook/LinkedIn, and yes, I’ll go there – coaches, if you want to send me t-shirts, e-mail d3midwest10s@gmail.com.

You’ll probably be seeing a lot from me in the comments section throughout next season under my real name, and I’m excited that I get to go full homer.

Thanks for a great couple years.
