Blogger Perspective: With back-to-back NCAA Final appearances, three consecutive Final Fours, a legendary coach, and a top notch liberal arts education, Middlebury is a great spot for highly ranked juniors. Middlebury is exactly what you think of when you imagine a New England liberal arts school; they just happen to have a phenomenal athletic department as well. The school is isolated in the small town of Middlebury, VT with a gorgeous campus. Despite their rough winters, the team still finds ample time to practice at their indoor facility which is arguably the nicest indoor facility in their conference. The Panthers compete in the extremely difficult NESCAC conference, and many of their rivals are also perennial championship contenders. Our bloggers often refer to 7-time national championship-winning coach, Bob Hansen, as the best in D3.

Middlebury is often nicknamed “Club Midd” which is both a testament to its work hard, play hard culture and a nod to its traditionally affluent student body. Although the tennis team does mirror some of this persona, it is more of a melting pot than it used to be. Middlebury has had two international Junior College transfers on the team in the last few years under Bob Hansen’s reign. The Panthers take their tennis very seriously, with it often rivaling the importance of academics for some players. The positive of that is the results on the tennis court have been strong with two consecutive NESCAC titles and three consecutive finishes in the Top 4 in the country. You can expect to spend a lot of hours on the court at Midd, but you will also benefit from a top liberal arts school education and the robust social life that’s available. Much like many other NESCACs, Middlebury’s admissions committee puts a high value on athletics and we recommend top 110 in the country to make a true impact on this program as a freshman.
