I am just wondering- will there be a preview for individuals singles n doubles? As I remember(correct me if Im wrong) there were some in depth posts last years on individuals.

We will certainly be doing a bracket challenge, and I’m sure someone will step up for some individual previews as well! It’s an exciting time!

Not sure why a 3 seed is given a host site over a 1 seed…

Also, why isn’t Carthage playing at UW-W? They’re like an hour away. Instead, they have to drive an extra 4 to Wash U. Should’ve swapped them with Coe/Grinell.

Delayed comment (just thought of this)

Chicago is hosting Women’s and I know for a fact they did not want to host both Men’s and Women’s. That rules them out. Since the NCAA was probably going to give it to Chicago, they didn’t want to give it to GAC considering that’d be giving the #2 seed the home court. Instead, they pick a neutral court to make it more fair. This is why.

Thanks for the well thought out response. Counter argument though: why is Chicago hosting Women’s instead of Men’s? Couldn’t the women’s regional be held at CMU?

        1. D3AtlanticSouth

Both Augustana & Edgewood are 600+ miles from CMU, so that wouldn’t be feasible. The problem with the Women’s draw is that there are not enough good teams in the Central region that put in bids to host. I assume Wash U couldn’t host both Men’s and Women’s, Chicago same thing, and Depauw obviously put in a bid.

There’s a multitude of AQ winners out there but not enough good teams. So, they had to use Chicago as the host site instead of Mens. If CMU made the Men’s bracket, that could have changed things, but obviously that didn’t happen.

You’re awesome! That makes a lot of sense!

thanks 🙂 love the discussion and keep asking questions! Took me a while to think of answers for this one!

This has never stopped them from giving a #2 seed home court advantage before

        1. D3AtlanticSouth

Has there ever been a situation such as this one where the #1 seed had the ability to host but could not host due to Men’s/Women’s reasons? Additionally, has there ever been a situation such as this where the top 3 teams could all host the teams in the region? I believe you’re thinking of Gustavus hosting Wash U or Trinity TX every year. Both are totally different scenarios because the top 3 teams cannot host everyone in that region. In this case, they probably didn’t want to penalize Chicago for hosting Women’s.

If you find another example, I can re-evaluate.

          1. D3West

I am talking about Trinity going to GAC, and the situation is exactly the same because, given the fact that Chicago could not actually host because their women had to host, in both situations, the #2 and #3 teams are both capable of hosting every team in the region. It never stopped the NCAA from selecting the #2 team to host before

          2. D3AtlanticSouth

It’s a different thought process. Trinity is geographically isolated and has to travel, they go to GAC. In my series of events – NCAA wanted to pick Chicago, but could not because both Men’s and Women’s teams were good and hosted. So instead of penalizing Chicago, they go to UWW. Also, GAC I am pretty sure has never been this closely ranked to their #1 seed, it’s possible that the NCAA took this into account and did not want to give them home court as well.

Either way, it’s common sense to give UWW the host with my reasoning – whether the NCAA has done it before is just a knock on them. Not sure if that’s your goal. I was just trying to give reasoning behind the decision and that seems to be the most likely scenario. The NCAA is not filled with robots, people can think and change too.

          3. D3West

It is just a knock on them. The reasons you mentioned provide no further justification for picking UW-W now than before. The only possible reason for them to pick UW-W is to try to keep Chicago a couple hundred miles closer to home

Thanks for doing this! I don’t get why they don’t have a selection show. Every sport aside from tennis has a show, I think…Anyway, in the title of the post you said 7 p.m., but in the actual post you said the release will be at 3 p.m. Do you know which it is?

    1. D3AtlanticSouth

7PM is official release time! Normally we get everything by 3-4PM, but no guarantees on that. Crazy how I mad a mistake on a live thread post… lol. Sigh, mondays.
