A Kickoff in the Reg ASouth!

We’re back with another year of the blog and I couldn’t be more excited! Last year was great and now we’ve added two new men’s bloggers for even more coverage AND women’s coverage! The newbies have started strong with some awesome articles that you should definitely check out, but be sure to leave critical comments on them so they feel self-conscious. Kidding… Maybe…

Anyways, there have been a few changes this offseason with the teams I cover, so now I will only be covering teams in the Atlantic South. For Skidmore and Stevens coverage check out my fellow second year blogger D3 RegNEC. Even though he covers over 20 teams, I’m sure he will give them the all the attention they deserve (which probably won’t be much since the Leung and Heinrich days are over). But enough blabbering, let’s get right to it and check in on my teams!

Sewanee – Will the Scho go on?

Why not throw it back one more time for Mr. Schober?

The departure of the Tigers’ stud #1 and Three-Time All-American, Avery Schober, will indeed hurt, but I think they will be just fine. Sewanee returns 5 of their starters and brought in a couple of freshman studs this season. Look for Sewanee to stay right at home in the 20-25 range nationally and once again get sent to Emory for NCAAs after winning the SAA.

Washington and Lee – Graduated Generals

Unlike Sewanee, I am a little skeptical of Washington and Lee this season because of graduation. They lost their top two guys Krasner and Bannister and failed to reload with talent. Senior March Zheng or junior Zack Ely will need to step it up this season if they want to maintain a top 30 national ranking. The good news is that the ODAC should continue to be a cakewalk.

Christopher Newport – Oh Captain my Captain

‘Twas the end of last season and the Eagles began to collapse, the Captains seized the opportunity by taking the last match. Off to NCAA for the first time in years, CNU celebrated, CNU cheered. No one has graduated, no one is gone, but the top of their lineup needs to be strong. Between one, two and three a combined 35-34, the Captains will need the Cerny and Reed to do a little more. Expect a good year from CNU, but don’t get complacent because Mary Washington is coming for you.

Will the Swarthmore Stud tank or tree this season?

Swarthmore – Boom and Bust

Which Fallati will we see this season? Two years ago, a young sophomore Mark was having one heck of a season, earning him a trip to individual NCAAs. Last season, Fallati started off with a strong showing in ITAs but suffered a setback in the spring picking up only one notable win over Graham Maassen of Pomona. When Fallati was hot during the ’15-16 season, the Garnet were 15-6, but when he was cold last season, they went 12-12. If they want to threaten Johns Hopkins for the Centennial Conference title, they need their senior to step up.

NC Wesleyan – Hide and Sikh

Some of you may remember the days where the Battling Bishops battled their way into the Elite 8, but many of you also remember when they were unranked and losing to any top tier team that you can imagine. Sikh and Brokakis have been staples at the top of the lineup the past couple of years and they brought in five new freshmen that we know almost nothing about. Will the Bishops find the magic they had in the past or will they continue to remain just a “dangerous” team who has potential that never manifests.

Will the SAA Player of the Year be able to repeat his stellar season?

Millsaps – Major Steps in the Right Direction

The Majors have quietly gone about developing into a program that you shouldn’t sleep on. With a top-notch doubles team and a strong top singles player, Millsaps has shown that talent isn’t everything by taking second place in SAA’s last season. They have not graduated anyone and brought in three new freshmen. If they can develop talent like they have in the past, Millsaps could one day be a legitimate contender in the SAA.

Rhodes – On the Rhode to Success

Rhodes brought in the number 13 recruiting class in Division 3 tennis last season, but the immediate impact freshman only played in the middle of the lineup. In order to challenge Millsaps for second place in the SAA and eventually Sewanee for the crown, the Lynx need to develop their existing talent. The best part about freshman though is that they become sophomores and mature. Hopefully the duo of Lauture and Chatterjee will live up to their potential and firmly place themselves at the top of the lineup this season.
