Blogger Perspective: Kenyon is a Midwestern liberal arts school in a rural setting with a tennis program that has been one of the top ten in the country for the majority of the last decade. One of the primary selling points of Kenyon tennis is their outstanding indoor facility, the Jasper Tennis Center, which is arguably the nicest indoor tennis facility in D3. The Lords have a well-earned reputation for being a resilient and gritty team that never quits no matter how bad things look on the court. Kenyon has a very strong history of taking freshmen who played in the bottom half of the lineup and turning them into upperclassmen who are strong #1 singles players. This has happened with four or five different individuals throughout the past several years, exemplified by recent NCAA doubles champion Sam Geier. This is a testament to Head Coach Scott Thielke, who is one of the longest tenured coaches in D3 and runs a very intense program.
Kenyon is known for being a tough place to play for opposing teams primarily due to their enthusiastic bench players and large crowds of students that they attract for home matches. This is a reflection of the strong social life at Kenyon, a school that is known for its relatively affluent student body as well as its strong liberal arts education. The Lords are very well liked and well respected by most of the other teams in the country due to their down-to-earth persona and “never quit” attitude.
