Blogger Perspective: Emory has one of the highest ratings in the Tennis Program & Tradition category when compared to other schools. This may have something to do with eighteen consecutive quarterfinals and three national titles for the Eagles, with the most recent coming in 2012. This top ranked research university – tucked away in a very nice section of Atlanta – always has one of the most talented teams in the country, hence the high target ranking for incoming recruits and high Power 6. Without a football team and with extensive resources from Atlanta-based Coca-Cola, Emory really places a high emphasis on athletics. Additionally, Emory’s tennis courts are conveniently in the center of campus, making the tennis team one of the most visible teams in the school.
Since John Browning has been in charge of this program, they have been a national power. Emory successfully attracts a certain type of very confident player and this culture that has been built really works for the Eagles when it comes to results on the courts. The Eagles have done a good job recruiting nationwide, but have been particularly successful in the New York and D.C. area due to the strong recognition of the school on the East Coast. This is another team that is virtually a D1 program, and their top player is almost always one of the best in the country. Even with the academic reputation of the school, some of the Emory players really take their tennis seriously. Emory was one of five UAA programs to finish in the top eight in the country at the end of the 2016 season, and we fully expect the Eagles to be competing for national titles every year into the foreseeable future.
When are you going to update this information? Emory has won two national championship since 2012; 2017, 2019.
