A Trip Down Memory Lane

I promise I will write an actual article about the Elite 8 later in the week, but for now use this as a warm up. I’ve selected 5 matches for each team remaining that are memorable to me when thinking about the program. All 5 of the matches together tell a story and I think it’s important to know what’s already happened before more history is written next week. Feel free to give your interpretation (keep them fairly short, please) of what you think these matches mean and any matches that you feel are also “program-defining” as you go through the links.  Enjoy.

After an untimely loss to the Slugs at a mid-season Texas quad, CMS had to travel to Santa Cruz for the NCAA Regional. The Stags had not beaten the Slugs on their tough home courts in over a decade. In the Regional Final (NCAA third round) it was #3 Stags vs. #4 Slugs / Settles vs. Hansen. The Region of Death to the max. In an incredible match, the Stags won to qualify for their second straight NCAA Quarterfinal, shake off the Cruz Curse, and solidify their dominance in the West — a defining step forward for CMS.
