2017 Power Rankings, 3/23

It’s Thursday, and that means Power Rankings. While the top 20 was fairly silent with no big upsets the past week, we did have some movement down below that I am sure our regional writers and readers are more than excited about. Also, we just released AVZ’s first podcast ever, featuring an interview with #8 power ranked team Wesleyan’s Coach Fried. To view/listen to that podcast, please click here. Listen to it on a trip, on the way to work, or even before bed. Whatever helps you get through the day. I know I’ve personally listened to it twice already, with probably more listens to come.  It may or may not be a better podcast than Serial. Okay, I’m getting ahead of myself. While I do love the podcast, I know the readers love power rankings.  Here they are, in all their glory.

And there you have em. With some moves down at the bottom, Power Rankings continues to be interesting. Watch out for a huge matchup today between the #4 power ranked Chicago and newly minted #1 CMS. I personally believe in the Roons, but who knows what happens. That’s why we watch the matches. Until next week, Power Rankings fans. ASouth, OUT.

    What does the blog think of williams this year? Do you think they can finish top 3 in the Nescac or beat Middlebury? How long until Coach Greenberg gets his team into the top 5 again?

      I think several of the bloggers have different opinions on this, but I will add my two cents. I think Williams is the NESCAC #5 this year. Given what we know now, it’s hard to say that they should be talked about as one of the best three teams in the conference. Wesleyan had a really nice California trip, Amherst 9-0’d Trinity TX and gave Emory a battle, and both 2016 national finalists have looked good early. I think Williams likely ends up somewhere between 9 and 12 in the country, but that could very well put them at 5th in the NESCAC and out of the NCAA tournament. That said, I think they are capable of beating any of the teams that I consider top four on the right day.

      So to answer your question, I’d put their chances at NESCAC top 3 as slim, but not impossible. This weekend’s match against Redlands should be very telling since we know Bowdoin and Wesleyan both beat the Bulldogs already.

      I am notoriously the biggest “hater” of Williams on the blog team, but I think they are solidly entrenched in the top 12 or 13 teams. However, I do think they are a tier lower than their NESCAC counterparts Amherst and Wesleyan, and not touching the quality of Bowdoin and Middlebury. In reference to your question on how long its going to take for them to get back to the top 5, I think it’s going to be a while. Amherst/Wesleyan are outrecruiting them right now, Bowdoin is outdeveloping them, and Middlebury is doing a little of both. I think Williams should start talking about reaching the top 4 in their conference before they can even look at top 5 in the nation.

    @D3AS @D3Regional @D3RegionalAS A little skeptical. Does a 6-3 direct win on the road mean nothing anymore?? #salty #mulesonamission

      Shaw, that trio of teams Colby/TCNJ/NYU form a triangle, it’s kind of hard to make everyone happy there.
